The children really enjoyed listening to George’s story and learning all about the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. They loved waking up the recycling rat George brought with him. 😉♻️🐀
It’s our commitment as a Right Respecting School to support those who need it most, and to raise awareness with our Pinecones and Chestnuts.
Thank you for all the donations to Comic Relief and for taking part on our eco approach by painting your child’s nose. We were able to raise an amazing £101. 😊🔴

Everyone here at Knockbreda really enjoyed dressing up as Superheroes to raise money for the amazing charity Autism NI.
Thank you kindly to all the parents who contributed and dressed their children up magnificently. It was lovely to see all the different costumes. We were able to raise a brilliant £97 for this wonderful charity.
The children were able to make their own masks and talk about what superpowers they could have.
Thank you to the very kind mums, dads and siblings that came to read a story or two for us! We loved having you in our classroom!
We had loads of fun reading with mums, dads and siblings, we then looked for different book characters around our classroom and were so excited and lastly picked a book and went on a book hunt to find what was on our checklist.

We also had visitors Mr Barry Mulholland (chairperson of the Education Authority) and Mr Mark Baker ( chief executive of the Controlled Schools’ Support Council) in our school to see how we implement our rights and how we respect the rights of others.
We were delighted to welcome Jo from Performing Starz to conclude our World book celebrations with a very fun and engaging puppet show! We had a chance to move, dance and laugh as we watched and listened carefully to the puppets!

We are the only controlled mainstream Nursery School in Northern Ireland to have attained this award. A big thank you to all the children, parents and staff, particularly Mrs Welsh, who have worked tirelessly to ensure we achieve the award. The full report can be read here.

The assessment day will take place on 8th February and we are looking forward to inviting a member of the UNICEF team to see how rights are embedded in Knockbreda Nursery School.

We talked to the children about the reason for giving money to this charity and we sang our Rights Respecting Song as we remembered how lucky we are to have our rights respected.

Thank you for helping us celebrate children’s rights by wearing something blue to take part on World Children’s Day
The children have begun to learn the ABCDE of rights in our Rights focused Circle Time sessions and are developing a good awareness of their rights.
Keep an eye on our Rights Board in the Hub area where the children’s ideas will soon be displayed!
This week we have talked about ways we can keep safe in the sun. Yesterday we had a visit and talk from Rebecca from Cancer Fund for Children and today we had our Hats and Shades Day!
We all really enjoyed wearing our cool hats and shades in school !

Today we held our last whole school eco-meeting of the year! We were able to look back at all the great things we have done this year for our environment and to suggest actions for next year at Knockbreda.
As suggested by the children during previous eco-meetings, Mrs Welsh has now purchased some ‘Don’t drop litter signs’ and an outdoor bin, and these will soon be displayed near our gates to help ‘keep Knockbreda, tidy, neat and clean!’ ♪♪♪
Hip Hip Hooray! We have succesfully renewed our Green Flag Award and we have been invited to collect it at Belfast Castle in June!
Mrs Welsh encouraged the children to continue to have green hands when they go home by taking part on the Saving Energy Challenge and by joining on the Translink Challenge by scooting, biking or walking to school in June.
To finish our meeting, Mrs Welsh reminded the children that it is their right to learn about how to look after the environment.

We had such a fun day today celebrating National Children’s Day!
As a Right Respecting School we used this day as an opportunity to celebrate children’s rights. The Green and Red Apples are showing great understanding of their rights and know that no one can take their rights away! We wore something blue, sang our Rights Respecting Song, and had a picnic outside! 🌞
