About Knockbreda Nursery School

Knockbreda Nursery School is a happy and busy school setting, ‘where play is the work of children’ in a nurturing and caring learning environment.

Knockbreda Nursery is a stand alone controlled school, situated on the same campus as Knockbreda Primary School.  Knockbreda Nursery operates a full-time pattern of attendance with 52 children attending in two classes of 26. Each class is staffed with a Teacher and a Nursery Assistant; the school operates as an open plan setting, with staff working as one team and all pupils learning together.

The school is a modern, bright building and boasts a comprehensive range of resources and equipment. There are also two outside play areas, each covered in a 'soft surface' material for safety.  Outdoor play incorporates a number of learning pods to stimulate creative play and learning outside.  The school grounds also include a woodland, Forest School area which helps the children to appreciate and enjoy the outdoor environment, with many opportunities for planting and growing. The children take part in weekly Forest School sessions, making full use of this woodland area.

In recognition of our commitment to environmental work, Knockbreda Nursery School is proud to have achieved the Green Flag award and in reflection of our Forest School curriculum, the school also holds Northern Ireland Forest School accreditation. Knockbreda Nursery School is a Rights Respecting School and has achieved Unicef’s Gold Award, and is the only controlled mainstream Nursery School in Northern Ireland to have achieved this.

Mrs A Devine
Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to Knockbreda Nursery School for the 2025-2026 school year. I am delighted to be stepping into the role of Acting Principal and I feel very fortunate to be working alongside our long-standing, dedicated staff team, who bring so much care and experience to the nursery.  It’s a privilege to be part of such a special community, where children are nurtured, supported, and encouraged to explore and grow every single day.

I am eager to continue building on the strong foundations already in place, ensuring that every child has the best possible start to their educational journey.

I look forward to getting to know each of you in the months ahead, and I am confident that, together, we can make this a truly happy and successful year for our children.

Warm regards,

Lynsey Anderson

Acting Principal
