We were delighted to welcome Jo from Performing Starz to conclude our World book celebrations with a very fun and engaging puppet show! We had a chance to move, dance and laugh as we watched and listened carefully to the puppets!
📚📚World Book Day 2024 📚📚
Thank you to the very kind mums, dads and siblings that came to read a story or two for us! We loved having you in our classroom!
And thank you all for your kind donations to the Book Aid charity; as a Gold Rights Respecting School we would like to continue developing the children’s awareness as citizens of the world with this type of charitable opportunity.
We are a Rights Respecting Gold Award holder!
We are the only controlled mainstream Nursery School in Northern Ireland to have attained this award. A big thank you to all the children, parents and staff, particularly Mrs Welsh, who have worked tirelessly to ensure we achieve the award. The full report can be read here.
We are aiming for Gold!
Thank you to all the parents that attended the informative session on our journey from Silver to Gold Rights Respecting School Award from UNICEF.
The assessment day will take place on 8th February and we are looking forward to inviting a member of the UNICEF team to see how rights are embedded in Knockbreda Nursery School.
Christmas Jumper Day
Thank you for taking part on Christmas Jumper Day and for giving generously to Save The Children.
We talked to the children about the reason for giving money to this charity and we sang our Rights Respecting Song as we remembered how lucky we are to have our rights respected.
World Children's Day
Thank you for helping us celebrate children’s rights by wearing something blue to take part on World Children’s Day
The children have begun to learn the ABCDE of rights in our Rights focused Circle Time sessions and are developing a good awareness of their rights.
Keep an eye on our Rights Board in the Hub area where the children’s ideas will soon be displayed!
Hats and Shades Day
This week we have talked about ways we can keep safe in the sun. Yesterday we had a visit and talk from Rebecca from Cancer Fund for Children and today we had our Hats and Shades Day!
We all really enjoyed wearing our cool hats and shades in school !
Thank you to everyone for the kind donations, we raised £80.90!
Whole School Eco-Meeting
Today we held our last whole school eco-meeting of the year! We were able to look back at all the great things we have done this year for our environment and to suggest actions for next year at Knockbreda.
As suggested by the children during previous eco-meetings, Mrs Welsh has now purchased some ‘Don’t drop litter signs’ and an outdoor bin, and these will soon be displayed near our gates to help ‘keep Knockbreda, tidy, neat and clean!’ ♪♪♪
Hip Hip Hooray! We have succesfully renewed our Green Flag Award and we have been invited to collect it at Belfast Castle in June!
Mrs Welsh encouraged the children to continue to have green hands when they go home by taking part on the Saving Energy Challenge and by joining on the Translink Challenge by scooting, biking or walking to school in June.
To finish our meeting, Mrs Welsh reminded the children that it is their right to learn about how to look after the environment.
Thank you Green Apples, Red Apples and parents for attending our last whole school eco-meeting!
